Pride and Prejudice with a modern twist

AYESHA SHAMSI has a lot going on.  Her dreams of being a poet have been set aside for a teaching job so she can pay off her debts to her wealthy uncle. This was such a cute, lighthearted read! And I loved Ayesha - what a woman.

There were a few times when I found the plot/characters a little hard to believe, but none of it took away from my enjoyment of the book.

I'd give the first half of this book a solid 5 but the second half a 3, hence the 4-star review.

I liked most of the characters, but felt that into the second half of the novel some of the characters became far less interesting or unbelievable. Particularly Hafsa.

It was a page-turner throughout, but I do wish some of the plot points were reached in a slightly different way. I don't want to reveal spoilers so I'll simply say I wasn't a fan of Khalid's meeting with Sheila at the end. The one othe

4.5 stars—

Ayesha at Last is the book Canada desperately needs, but it is also the book Canada wants! Only 3 chapters in, I was already squeeing at the absolute adorableness of this classic retelling that gracefully stands on its own as a delightful rom-com.

If you are an Austen fan looking for a fresh, new retelling; if you are looking to read more fun CanLit; and/or if you're looking to read more diversely, you are NOT going to want to miss this beauty! It's going to be one of THE books of the

I really really liked this sweet engaging romance. Set in Scarborough, it follows Ayesha and Khalid, who argue as much as they attract. They are both adorable; the author did such a great job creating these characters.

2.5 stars. It took me a long time to get into this book. I did eventually enjoy it but it took me a very long to feel invested in the story. I'm not sure why, it just kind of fell flat and felt way too much like a formulaic teen romance for my taste.

I loved this modern take on Pride & Prejudice with just enough twists to keep me rooting for the characters. It's a perfect read for the summer. Take it to the cottage, beach, or deck and relax with Ayesha & Khalid.
